VEGRO® has been used on lettuce plants and has been confirmed that it can synergistically provide greater yield and measurable quality characteristics.

This includes a significant increase in weight, increased number of leaves, chlorophyll and sugar level, magnesium (Mg) and iron (Fe) tissue content.

Finally, results also showed a reduction in water loss which is vital for an increased shelf-life.

Recent studies in greenhouses with tomato plants also demonstrated the efficacy of VEGRO® to increase fruit fresh weight, chlorophyll and sugar levels.

It further reduced the internode length (by 20%) which is desirable for tomato plants grown under glass.

Finally, studies in beans demonstrated the superior efficacy of VEGRO®. It produced larger plants with increased chlorophyll content, magnesium (Mg) and iron (Fe) content in the plant tissue and leaf diameter (which promotes resource capture).

Also here a reduction in internode length was observed which is favourable for many greenhouse and outdoor vegetable crops with an average 25% increase in yield.

The product

VEGRO® is a unique crop nutrition product with specially-designed formulation to provide efficient uptake of nutrients.

A patented technology is incorporated to significantly increase magnesium (Mg) and iron (Fe) utilization enhancing photosynthetic rate resulting in increased sugar production turned into yield.

The formulation is designed to provide a well-balanced supply of crop nutrients promoting optimized crop physiological growth and development. The nitrogen (N) has been chemically stabilised to reduce the conversion on the leaf from ammonium to nitrate resulting in a greater and prolonged supply of nitrogen (N) by foliar absorption avoiding severe scorching.

The technology contained enhances root mass production which reduces the hormonal effect of nitrogen (N) towards excessive height through balancing the growth-regulating cytokinins.

These benefits are observed throughout the crop’s growing cycle and result in measurable yield and
quality increase.

Foliar application instructions

Dosage/rate, water volume

Maximum dose 15 litres per hectare (5 litres per hectare at a time for well-developed crops) with a minimum of 200 litres of water.

Vegetable crops

2 litres per hectare between Growth Stage 15–18 (5–8 true leaves), 4–6 litres per hectare at Growth Stage 41–42 (head formation – 30% head formed) and 4–6 litres per hectare at Growth Stage 45–47 (50–70% head formed).

Compatibility/tank mix

It is essential to test compatibility in a jar before placing in spraying tank due to the variety of product formulations available.

Efficacy trials with external providers and growers (including SGS UK laboratories) have demonstrated consistent benefits where the full programme is applied in addition to the standard farm practice.

Where biotic or abiotic factors adversely affect production then the yield benefit using VEGRO® is much higher, reaching up to 40%.

The return on investment (ROI) to the farmer is calculated to be a minimum of 1:5. Combination of products may be suggested as synergists to improve the yield further in certain circumstances at the farm scale.

Efficacy trials

Spinach

The efficacy of VEGRO® was tested on spinach in 2015. The results show that VEGRO® increases the chlorophyll (Figure 1) and sugar concentration (Figure 2) of spinach leaves.

Plants treated with VEGRO® also exhibit a greater fresh (Figure 3) and dry weight (Figure 4) and there was no difference in the percentage of dry matter of the plants (Figure 5).

Latter result shows that even though the plants treated with VEGRO® are larger, the percentage of dry matter is similar, which is a significant result. Shelf-life was tested over 5 days in which leaves were left at room temperature and changes in weight were measured.

Here plants treated with VEGRO® showed a lower reduction in weight (Figure 6) and leaves did show a low amount of degeneration.

Overall the results show that VEGRO® increases plant chlorophyll and sugar which will increase yield.

Finally VEGRO® positively affects quality and will increase shelf-life.

Strawberries

VEGRO® (2 litres per hectare) was tested on strawberries of the variety Flair. The results show that the treatment increases chlorophyll concentrations (Figure 7).

The treated strawberries also lost less weight after being left at room temperature for 5 days (Figure 8).

This results in an increased shelf-life and the treated strawberries also exhibit a more uniform shape compared to the untreated ones.

Red beet

VEGRO® (2 litres per hectare) was tested on red beet.

The results show that the treatment increases chlorophyll (Figure 9) and sugar concentrations (Figure 10).

The treated red beet also exhibited much straighter stems with greener and well developed foliage compared to the untreated plants.

Further to these results, the fresh and dry weight as well as the percentage of dry matter was greater in treated plants compared to the standard farm practice (see Figure 11).

The latter is a significant result, as one would normally expect larger plants to have a lower amount of dry matter.

The treatment increased not only the volume but also the actual dry matter.
